Meet Lottie opening her eyes and seeing her mummy for the very first time. This was one of the most incredible experiences of my life so far, when Vicky asked me to capture her birth.
Unfortunately, as with lots of births they cannot be planned. Vicky asked me to arrive at approx 9am when the midwife was also requested. Lottie was not hanging around and after Vicky’s waters broke without warning only a couple of hours before, Vicky delivered the baby herself, in a birth pool at home. I was so gutted I wasn’t actually there but this works perfectly for my New Little Beanies Fresh 48 Package. you really can’t get any fresher than this. I am very discreet not to get in the way and work with you as a family to capture not just your baby but the immense love for each other and your new family have for each other. Capturing that is what it’s all about.
I walked through the door at 8.25am, She was born at 8.15am. My heart was pounding, I had never wanted to be at something so much in all my life. Such a shame I missed it but I still had a truly magical experience to capture literally the first minutes and her baby meeting her mummy and daddy and the rest of the family. Vicky you were incredible and I felt so lucky to be asked to be part of this.
There were so many pics to share but these are some of my favs which Vicky agreed to. As I’m sure you’ll agree this was an incredible personal experience and if you were ever my client we would agree which photos I could use for my blogs and anything else.

“The pre-birth meeting went really well. Lisa immediately put me at ease and we got on so well. This was going to be Lisa’s first time photographing a birth although she had managed to expertly photograph her own which blew my mind, the images were amazing. I kept thinking If she could get such beautiful images whilst in labour I couldn’t wait to see what she could do when she didn’t have the distraction of birthing a human being. I came away from the meeting feeling so excited.
Unfortunately things didn’t go quite to plan. As a Midwife I always tell women second babies come fast I really should have listened to myself. My waters broke in the early hours of the morning and I contacted Lisa to let her know that things had started I reassured her at this point that nothing much was happening and we made a plan for her to head over for around 9ish that morning. However around 8 just as my little boy was being picked up by my sister in law the contractions suddenly changed.. I remember feeling her head moving down and trying to hold her in as Lisa wasn’t there yet and I knew how much she wanted to be there and how much I wanted her there. But there was no stopping her Lottie had decided she was waiting for no one including the Midwife and she was born at 8.15 calmly and gently into the water. Lisa arrived not long after and she seamlessly slotted in taking photos. It really felt like one of my good friends had just arrived.
Looking back on my birth I feel incredibly fortunate to have had such a wonderful straightforward time. Being a Midwife I know that this is not a given. It was a beautiful, empowering experience. Writing this now I want to do it all over again. I’m still really sad that Lisa wasn’t at the birth I know the images would have been spectacular. But I feel so grateful for the wonderful photos she got immediately after Lottie was born. I will treasure them forever, thank you so much Lisa. If I ever do do it again you will be the first person I call, you will have to come and camp out at my house!”
To have this captured is just truly amazing. If you want to find out more about my Birth and Fresh 48 Packages then please do get in touch.
Vicky, I can’t express into words how amazing this was for me. I will remember this as a huge milestone in my photography journey and I so hope to get to do more like this.
Lots of Love
Lisa xx
