Meeting your baby for the first time is intense and wonderful. It’s an overload of emotions that you never knew existed before, and the beginning of a brand new journey for you and your partner.

To look back on this your birth and remember those times is priceless. To be able to do this for someone else is an absolute dream for me.

THE INCREDIBLE BIRTHING JOURNEY

"When I gave birth to my first son, my life changed forever. In fact, it was the most life-changing experience I could have imagined. A million times bigger than my wedding day.

That night, I lay awake with my gorgeous newborn - and I knew I wanted to do it all over again. To begin with, I relived the birth for days. Sadly, over time, my memory of the finer details faded, and all I had was a shaky photo from my phone.

Before I had my little boy, I couldn’t understand why anyone would want anyone else in the room except their partner. However, I treasure those first moments, and I wish I’d had the opportunity to take more pictures of his arrival.

It left me thinking, “why is it that we record our wedding day with such intent, but not our children’s births?”

Every birth is different. Every birth has its own unique story. Why not capture it?

I am now the proud mum of two gorgeous boys, and I am so glad that I made the decision to take lots more photographs at my second delivery."

LITTLE BEANIES BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY

So, you’re maybe thinking that birth photography is all about ‘the business end’?

I can, of course, capture this at your request, but what it’s really about is the pure and raw emotional connection between you and your partner, and the celebration of you meeting your baby for the first time.

There is absolutely no posing, just real life moments captured in my signature documentary style. I’m discreet and sensitive to mum-to-be’s journey through labour.

Little Beanies Birth session photos are mostly edited in black and white to create stylish and tasteful pictures.

BEFORE THE BIRTH

It is essential to make sure that we meet before your birth for a chat and to get to know one another.

A birth is an extremely intimate time for you and your partner, and I want to make sure you feel completely at ease with me before booking.

As you can imagine, it’s very different to having a family session, and you don’t want anyone there that you’re not comfortable with. I have been through two births myself, and I know exactly what you are going through, although every birth is different.

Once you have decided that I am the right birth photographer for you, I will arrange a pre-birth consultation with both you and your partner (after all, it’ll probably be your partner I will mostly be communicating with on the day!). We’ll talk through your birth plan, you’ll let me know what you would and would not like photographed, and I’ll answer any questions you have.

AT THE BIRTH

Unless you are planning a C-Section, you’ll know that exact plans are not easy to make. The baby will come when it’s ready, and that’s that.

Yes, the logistics can be challenging, but we work together to make sure that I’m there at the right time and to keep the process stress-free.

Once you book me, I’m on call from week 38 to the birth. I love finding out how you are doing, so we’ll be in touch during this time, so don’t worry!

The plan is usually for me to arrive when you are in established labour, and begin to capture your once-in-a-lifetime photos until a few hours after your baby is born.

I very much blend into the background. Being a natural light photographer means I only use available light in the room, therefore I do not disturb the birthing journey with any kind of artificial light.

SAFE & SOUND

Once the baby has safely arrived and you are enjoying your first snuggles, I will be busy capturing every single special moment – giving you photographs that will encapsulate the relief, the love, and all of the pure, raw emotion. I’ll then leave, letting you rest and enjoy your brand new bundle of joy!

Due to the nature of birth being so unpredictable, and the logistics that come with being on call, I only take on a maximum of 4 births a year.

“Childbirth is Beautiful, Miraculous and life changing”

THE LITTLE BEANIES STYLE

As a mum, I know how quickly little ones grow. Each chapter of their lives is wonderful, and it’s so important to capture these times. You simply don’t want to miss any of it.

Real life isn’t posed, and your children rarely sit still – so why would you want the photographs that reflect the most significant moments of your life to be like that?

A Little Beanies photo session documents your very own real and fun-filled story – the story of your unique family life featuring everyone, even mum & dad!

You’ll have photographs to literally treasure forever.

"Lisa immediately put me at ease and we got on so well. Looking back at my birth, it was a beautiful, empowering experience. I feel so fortunate for the photo’s Lisa got. I will treasure them forever, thank you so much Lisa. If I ever do it again you will be the first person I call!”

SOME OF THE FINER DETAILS...

How long is a piece of string? We can discuss everything in our pre-consultation chat but I aim to get their around 5cm dilated and hang around for an hour or so after baby is born. Second babies can come very quickly!

That is not a problem. You may want to just pre-warn the hospital of my arrival and make sure they are happy for me to be present before the day and check their policies but hiring birth photographers and Doulas for the day is becoming increasingly popular.

This will all be discussed in your pre-consultation meeting. Birth can be so difficult to predict as you can imagine but I do everything I can and that’s why I only book 4 birth sessions a year. If you are worried about this then why not book my First Days package instead where I come along within 72 hours of you giving birth to capture them really tiny, meeting siblings too if you have any. I also have a package in between where I plan to be there but cannot guarantee due to logistics and other commitments but if all works out I can be. It will just be luck on the day 😉
