FAMILY SESSION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A session typically lasts an hour with a family but I allow up to 2 hours. I say this because kids generally don’t last that long, and I really do get the best from them in the first hour. It’s sometimes nice to have a change in location or scenery so maybe pop in the garden or drive somewhere a few mins away. It also means you can plan something else with your day if you have taken time off as I won’t be taking up your whole day unless you book my Day in a life which is a different concept altogether.

I love the home as this is where you spend most of your time and equally if they are children aged 3 plus they normally love the outdoors too. So this is entirely up to you. IUF the distance isn’t too far I often do a combination of both for a change of scenery.

If I come to your home, I normally get to know the kids a little first but I do get snapping pretty much straight away as kids don’t last too long. I’m always happy to have a chat before hand to plan your session. If you would like an activity we can do baking, go on a bear hunt (always fun for older ones), I even have kids turn into super hero’s half way through too which is also lots of fun. We can go for a walk, go to the park, feed the ducks. I have lots of trick ups my sleeve to keep them entertained. The most important thing is to be you and just doing your everyday things often keeps them very much entertained.

It is so important that you wear what you feel comfortable with in and the kids. I tend to say don’t wear any big logos or loud patterns. No need to coordinate unless you want to. The more comfortable you feel, the more relaxed you and the family will be and one less thing to worry about.

Being a mum of two young boys myself I know exactly what life can be like with kids. One minute everything is fine and the next minute they are throwing an almighty tantrum. Honestly don’t worry this can happen and it’s not a problem at all. We just make sure the kids are happy. They lead the show basically and we never ask them to do anything they don’t ant to. They may want a snack and a sit down. This is fine. I will read the situation and they may just need a little break and this is why I’m really flexible on my sessions. If there is more than one child then we can just focus on the other for a bit or mum and dad. Believe me they soon want to get involved again!

Absolutely! Although I am very much capturing the moment, I do like to make sure we have a certain number of photos in a certain way. I tend not to ask you to look at the camera much but when I see the time is right I will definitely get a slightly more posed photo. After all the parents love these ones! Generally the session is much more relaxed though and you tend to get the best ones this way in your natural surroundings.
